For competitive runners of all levels, this weekend of high-performance training is dedicated to improving your running.
Led by Coach James Thie, Sports Physiotherapist Matt Bergin and another soon to be announced Sports Performance Specialist. Run faster, become a more robust & efficient athlete with Training Focus Camps Cardiff.

Cardiff Training Focus Camps Weekend Summary
This camp is limited to a maximum of 16 runners
This weekend running camp is designed for competitive runners of all abilities; If you love running & want to improve then this is for you.
Across two days of high-performance coaching and athlete education, you will learn from three industry-leading experts and leave with the knowledge and inspiration to improve your running.
Coach James Thie will lead the camp and will be joined by Sports Physiotherapist Matt Bergin on Saturday and Exercise Physiologist Barry Fudge on Sunday.
James will introduce you to the high-performance training methods of elite runners and explain how you can utilise these in your own training for improved efficiency and faster running. Matt Bergin will deliver on biomechanical risk factors for injuries in runners and strategies for improving physical performance in non-injured runners. On Sunday Barry Fudge will join us to explore the science of elite endurance performance and how this can be utilised to help runners of all levels.
You will be lead through whole group seminar sessions, small group practical & theoretical workshops and running sessions under the watchful eye of our expert team.
It’s an action-packed weekend full of high quality, engaging content. There will also be time to relax and recover between training with planned downtime and social sessions.

What to Expect
Before the Camp Begins
Comprehensive Pre Camp Customer Support.
Our team are on hand to help you with everything you need and to answer all your questions in advance of the camp before and after you have booked your place.
Before you arrive you will receive comprehensive pre-camp information with everything you need to prepare for the weekend ahead. This will include additional information on the camp itinerary and the running sessions which will be part of the weekend in order that you can plan in advance and know what you need to bring along.
Travel as far as Cyncoed Campus at Cardiff Met is your responsibility, although we can of course help and advise on this, so if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
Saturday
Arrival 08:45 – 09:00
Upon arrival, our team will be on hand to welcome you to the Cyncoed Campus, your home for the weekend.
The camp will start with a brief introduction meeting where you will be introduced to the team, and then we will be straight into the action.
Your team for today is lead is Coach James Thie and Physiotherapist Matt Bergin.
Across the day we will spend time in both whole group seminars and small group breakouts which may be practical or classroom-based. Coaches James and Callum will also lead you through an interval-based running session.
It is a busy day, but rest periods will be built into the schedule.
After our evening meal, we will move to the athlete lounge for a more relaxed Q&A and expert panel discussion, before spending the rest of the evening socialising together.
Sunday
Our Sports Performance Specialist for Sunday is Dr Barry Fudge – a world-renowned Sports Scientist who was Head of Endurance at British Athletics from 2013 – 2020 having previously acted as Head of Science.
Sunday is another busy day and will start early with coffee and snack before we head out for a run. After breakfast, we will be joined by Dr Barry Fudge.
The rest of the day will follow a similar format to Saturday with seminars and small group workshops led by James and Barry. After lunch, James will then interview Barry in a Q&A style session and there will be an opportunity for guests to add their own questions directly to the team.
James will conclude the camp with a final presentation summarising the key learning outcomes from the weekend and answering your final questions.
The camp will close around 16:30 – 17:00

Cardiff Metropolitan University is a perfect match for Training Focus Camps providing clean, simple accommodation in single ensuite rooms, with elite-level athletics facilities and sports appropriate catering.
Our accommodation is recently refurbished Student Halls at Cyncoed Campus. All rooms are single occupancy and en-suite. It is simple, but clean and comfortable and all rooms being single occupancy gives you additional privacy for the weekend and a place to relax and recover after a days training. Although the rooms do have shared kitchen facilities, the camp is fully catered and we will take all meals in the in K1 Restaurant. We will use high-quality University facilities for our seminar and classroom based activities. Our training and practical workshop sessions will utilise the top class National Indoor Athletics Centre and adjacent Outdoor Athletics Track as well as local running routes and parks.

Your Safety & Covid-19
Your safety during the weekend is paramount and we have put in place a comprehensive safety policy to ensure that this event is Covid secure and will comply with all local and national regulations.
These will be constantly updated as the situation changes and evolves as we approach the camp. All guests will be sent details of our comprehensive Covid Policy in advance of attendance at the camp.
